Vladimir Propp; who was he?Vladimir Propp was a man who was known for investigating the plot in Russian Folk stories.
Propp's tales constitied that the tale has 31 sequences although in the end he concluded that all characters can be resolved in to eight broad charater types in the 100 tales that he anaylsed and these are;
The Villan; fights with the hero
The Donor; person who gives magical object to the hero
The (magic) Helper; gives help to the hero with in their quest
The Princess or Prize; the girl that the hero deverse's but is unable to marry her due to evil, even though the hero's journey is often ended by the hero marrying her ending all evil curses.
Her Father; the man who choses the hero for his princess. It is often that the princess and the father can not be clearly distinguished.
The Dispatcher; character who provides fasle information to the hero
The Hero; the brave, strong and the one who does right. also marries the princess
False Hero; the fake hero, takes credit for what the hero has done
Most of these characters are common in fairytales. A character can have more than one role in a fairytale.
