EVALUATION - Q1) In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

The music video, 'About You Now' by 'Sugababes', was an initial inspiration for our video with shots of London at the beginning of the video, edited to the beat as we thought it would add such effect to our video, it would make the opening to our video a pleasant product to watch. Above are the scenes from the original video produced by the artists, whilst the two images below are from our music video; though both sites are close to each other, to have the sense that we have evolved the idea into our own, we used different parts of London, but to the same effect.

The idea of how to bring the storyline of our video together was also influenced by the original video that our music video is based on; above, the image shows that the character in the original video was contacted by a phone call, however below, we decided to use a close-up shot of our character receiving a text; in effect, it allows the audience to have a chance to read what is on the screen and know what is to happen. Below the image of the texting, shows comparative shots from both the original video and our music video which followed the shot of communication...

As mentioned above, here are the shots which followed the shot of communication in both videos: it was the visual style of the character running in the original video which inspired the use of our character to run as well, to show movement of the storyline. It allowed us to experiment with the effects on Finalcut pro, so we decided to have our character run at a slow-pace effect, and then have a fade in fade out effect...
...the for following shot.

Above, images taken from the original video of the artists, are shots of the male character running about London, attempting to find the female, below is our version of a similar idea. The varied use of camera angles to follow the same action is what inspired us to have featured in our music video to add effect to our storyline, and to maintain the interest of the audience, which worked successfully as it added extra movement to the action.

Above is an animatic of images from our music video and 'When I See You' by Fantasia, who, though is an American artist, put together showing how she influenced the idea of having our couple in our storyline come together at the end. The scene in her video is shown towards the end of the video and is by the riverside with the beautiful view of the city in the background at an out-of-focus shot, which in effect, gives full attention to the characters in the video. As a result, we decided to adapted the idea to our own by using a slow effect instead of the out-of-focus, which has been used through out the music video, therefore creating a connection, but also, by using a different mid-shot camera angle to give visual access to the audience, into what is on the screen - from our music video, this is shown also shown at the end.
